July 20 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 23-8 in a high-scoring game at Fort Marcy Park. Garden City collected 26 hits and scored in every inning while Santa Fe finished with 11 hits and committed three errors.
Garden City built an early advantage with one run in the first inning two in the second and three in the third. The Wind added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth before breaking the game open with six runs in the sixth. They added three runs in the seventh and two more in each of the final two innings. Santa Fe scored once in both the third and fourth innings and produced four runs in the sixth but could not close the gap.
Brandon Kussmaul led the Wind with five hits six RBI and two home runs. Hunter Villanueva went 5-for-6 with three RBI and a home run while Jordan Pontious had four hits five runs and two RBI. Garrett Totty added four hits four RBI and two home runs and Shane Brown contributed two hits and two RBI. Garden City hit eight home runs overall with Alvin Swoope Vaibhav Desai and Brennan Fischer also going deep.
Fischer earned the win after allowing eight hits and six earned runs in six innings with five walks and six strikeouts. Vaibhav Desai closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning. Tommy Giunta took the loss for Santa Fe after surrendering 18 hits and 15 earned runs in six innings. Santa Fes leading offensive performers included Brandon Dansereau who went 4-for-4 with three runs three RBI and a home run and Jackson Webb who had three hits and two RBI.
