July 30 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 9-1, scoring in four different innings and finishing with a 14-5 advantage in hits. Santa Fe’s lone run came in the seventh inning, while Garden City built its lead with four runs in the second, two in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Cutter McDowell went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Garden City.
Alvin Swoope also homered and finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, while
Zack Kammerman added two hits and two RBI.
Brandon Kussmaul reached base four times with two hits, two walks and three runs scored.
Shane Brown scored twice and collected two hits, and
Hunter Villanueva and
Peter Pena each drove in a run.
Kammerman earned the win after allowing one run on five hits over eight innings, striking out five without issuing a walk.
Kyle Koppenhoefer completed the game with a scoreless ninth inning. Santa Fe starter Alex Merithew took the loss after surrendering six runs on 10 hits in five innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.
The Fuego’s five-hit offense included two hits from
Sherman Graves and a double from
Troy Maslowski.
Chris Bosco drove in Santa Fe’s only run with a sacrifice fly.
