Santa Fe Fuego Roll Past Garden City Wind 33-6
August 3 2019 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Garden City Wind 33-6 at Fort Marcy Park, scoring 32 runs over the final eight innings after the teams traded one-run first innings. Santa Fe broke the game open with 13 runs in the second, added nine in the third and scored three more in the fourth. The Fuego also added a run in the sixth and six in the seventh.
Santa Fe collected 37 hits, including 10 extra-base hits and eight home runs. Sherman Graves went 6-for-7 with two homers, four runs and eight RBI, while Jose Camacho hit two home runs and drove in six. Chris Bosco also hit two homers and finished with four hits and five RBI. Kyle Butler scored six runs and had four hits, and Rick Phillips recorded five hits and four runs.
Cameron Fritz earned the win for Santa Fe after allowing 10 hits and six runs in five innings, with three earned runs, eight walks and three strikeouts. Cleveland Westbrook, Jack Herzing and Kip DeShields combined to hold Garden City scoreless over the final four innings. Garden City’s Shane Brown hit a solo home run and drove in two runs, while Brandon Kussmaul and Jordan Pontious each had two hits. David Peterson took the loss after surrendering 26 hits and 23 earned runs in three innings.
