June 5 2021 The Garden City Wind defeated the Salina Stockade 20-9 after collecting 16 hits and scoring in seven of their eight offensive innings. Garden City took control with a seven-run first inning, added two in the second and one in the third before tacking on three runs in each of the fifth through seventh innings. Salina finished with eight hits and scored three times in the fourth inning, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Alex Nielsen led Garden City with four hits, three runs and three RBI. Manuel Blanco drove in five runs with two hits, while Terry Daniels scored four times, hit a home run and added four RBI. Calvin Butler scored three runs and drove in one, and Corey Lewis contributed two hits and one RBI. The Wind also received two hits and two RBI from Toro Thomas.
Salina’s Jake Urena went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, including a home run. Brian Sanchez added two hits, two runs and two RBI with a home run, while Jordan Anderson also homered and drove in one. Salina’s eight runs included one in each of the first three innings, three in the fourth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Tanner Stilts earned the win for Garden City after allowing seven hits and eight runs, including eight earned, over seven innings. He walked four and struck out seven. Mario Alston took the loss for Salina, surrendering 10 hits and 13 runs, 10 earned, in 4 1/3 innings with five walks and one strikeout.
