July 5 2021 The Roswell Invaders defeated the Garden City Wind 15-5 after collecting 20 hits in a high-scoring nine-inning game. Roswell scored four runs in the first inning, added one in the second and three in the third to build a 9-1 lead, then maintained its advantage with runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Bret Leiferman led Roswell’s offensive attack by going 5-for-6 with a home run, four runs scored and four RBI. Lance Myers went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, while Mike Flohr added three hits, including a home run, and four RBI. John Tuttle also homered for the Invaders, and Robert Morosetti contributed two hits and one RBI.
Garden City scored once in the third and fourth innings, added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth. Calvin Butler hit a home run and drove in one run, while Toro Thomas and Preston Rackley each had two hits. The Wind finished with eight hits and committed four errors, compared with three errors by Roswell.
Ashton Holdridge earned the victory for Roswell after allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, in five innings. He walked five and struck out three. Jack McNellis worked two innings and allowed three runs, two earned, while Cody Strayer completed the game with two scoreless innings. Tanner Stilts took the loss for Garden City after surrendering 11 hits and nine runs, seven earned, in three innings.
