Garden City Wind Defeat Tucson Saguaros 7- 5
GARDEN CITY, Kansas - The Garden City Wind used a three-run sixth inning to regain the lead and went on to defeat the Tucson Saguaros 7-5 on August 2, 2026, at Clint Lightner Field.
Garden City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kaden Kirshenbaum doubled home Peyton Lewis and Ben Bach. Tucson answered with two runs in the third. Sloan Laird delivered an RBI double, and Gavy Perez-Torres reached on an error that allowed Laird to score.
The Saguaros moved ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning when Diego Zuniga hit a solo home run. The lead held until the bottom of the sixth, when the Wind scored three times. Gavin Peterson singled home Rob Morosetti and Leyton Barry, and Darius Freeman followed with an RBI single that scored Jordan Williams for a 5-3 Garden City lead.
Garden City added another run in the seventh when Kirshenbaum tripled and scored on a Leyton Barry single. Tucson cut the lead to 6-4 in the eighth on an RBI walk by Adan Vega, but Freeman scored in the bottom half after reaching on a single and advancing home on a Tucson throwing error.
The Saguaros made one final push in the ninth. Laird singled and later scored on a fielders choice by Cedric Reynaud, but Jack Robinson retired the final two batters to secure the 7-5 victory.
Kirshenbaum led the Garden City offense by going 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. Freeman went 3-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Peterson earned the win after allowing one run on four hits over four innings of relief.
Laird led Tucson by going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and one RBI. Zuniga finished 2-for-5 with a home run. Garden City collected 10 hits, while Tucson finished with seven.
