8/9/2026-Garden City Wind Win First Pecos League Championship in Team History

The Garden City Wind are Pecos League Champions for the first time in team history after defeating the Martinez Sturgeon 12-3 in Garden City to complete a two-game sweep of the Pecos League Championship Series. Garden City won the series 2 games to 0 to capture the 2026 Pecos League Championship.

Garden City took control early, scoring one run in the first inning and two more in the second to build a 3-0 lead. The Wind then broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Garden City finished the night with 12 runs on 14 hits while playing error-free defense. Martinez scored three runs on eight hits and committed two errors.

Ben Bach delivered the biggest offensive performance of the championship-clinching game. Bach went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, a walk and five RBIs. His three-run triple in the fourth inning scored Darius Freeman, Peyton Lewis and Kaden Kirshenbaum and extended Garden City's lead to 6-0. Trent Lowe followed with an RBI groundout to make it 7-0.

The Wind continued the attack in the fifth inning. Peyton Lewis singled before Kaden Kirshenbaum drove him home with an RBI triple. Bach followed with another RBI single, and Aidan Grabowski added a two-run single that scored Bach and Dom Enbody as Garden City pushed its advantage to 11-2.

Garden City was aggressive throughout the game on the bases. Darius Freeman stole two bases, Peyton Lewis stole three, Aidan Grabowski stole three and Jason Ramos stole two. Freeman finished 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Lewis went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Grabowski added two hits and two RBIs.

Ayden Yaeger turned in a strong championship- clinching start for the Wind, working seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Tyler Bare pitched a scoreless eighth inning before Gavin Peterson closed the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out two. Garden City's pitching staff held Martinez to eight hits and three runs over nine innings.

Martinez scored twice in the fifth when Michael Pavelchak hit a two-run home run that scored Nick Thomson. Jesus Marrero added a solo home run in the seventh, but the Sturgeon could not overcome Garden City's early offensive explosion.

Rob Morosetti scored Garden City's final run in the eighth inning after drawing a walk and advancing to third on a Darius Freeman double. Peyton Lewis brought Morosetti home with an RBI groundout to make the final score 12-3.

The victory completes a historic season for the Garden City Wind. After defeating the Martinez Sturgeon two games to none in the Championship Series, Garden City can celebrate its first Pecos League Championship in franchise history.
