8/26/2026-Gavin Peterson Named Pecos League Mountain Division Pitcher of the Year

Gavin Peterson of the Garden City Wind has been named the 2026 Pecos League Mountain Division Pitcher of the Year after emerging as one of the league's most dependable relief pitchers and helping lead Garden City to its first Pecos League Championship.

Known around Garden City as the "Lefty from Lenexa," Peterson became the go-to arm out of the Wind bullpen throughout their championship season. The left-hander from Lenexa, Kansas appeared in 21 games, all in relief, and finished the regular season with a 2-0 record, 2.93 ERA and two saves.

Peterson worked 27.2 innings and allowed only 12 hits while striking out 40 batters. Opposing hitters consistently struggled to square him up, and Peterson gave Garden City a reliable left-handed option whenever the Wind needed important outs late in games.

His importance became even more evident during Garden City's postseason run. In the playoff victory over the Tucson Saguaros that sent Garden City to the Mountain Division Finals, Peterson delivered four innings of relief and earned the victory as the Wind defeated Tucson 7-5.

Peterson was still on the mound when Garden City's historic season reached its ultimate conclusion. In the championship-clinching game against the Martinez Sturgeon, Peterson was called upon to pitch the ninth inning. The Lefty from Lenexa delivered a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts, recording the final three outs as Garden City completed a two-game sweep and won the first Pecos League Championship in franchise history.

Garden City finished its championship season with a 40-11-1 record and defeated Martinez two games to none in the Pecos League Championship Series.

From his regular-season dominance out of the bullpen to taking the ball in some of Garden City's biggest postseason moments, Peterson proved to be one of the most valuable pieces of the Wind pitching staff.

When Garden City needed outs from the bullpen, the Lefty from Lenexa was one of the arms they trusted most.

For his outstanding season and his role in helping bring a Pecos League Championship to Garden City, Gavin Peterson has been named the 2026 Pecos League Mountain Division Pitcher of the Year.
