July 8 2017 The Trinidad Triggers defeated the Garden City Wind 12-5 at Central Park, using a five-run fifth inning and a pair of two-run frames in the sixth and seventh to pull away. Trinidad collected 14 hits and scored in the first three innings before its five-run fifth turned a close game into a decisive lead.
Lucas Owens paced Trinidad with three hits and three runs in four at-bats, while J. Randle added three hits and an RBI. P. Llewellyn scored twice and drove in two runs, and
Jordan Van Atta hit a home run and finished with three RBIs.
Justin Busekrus had two hits, and
Kyle Rodriguez scored twice and drove in a run.
Garden City received three hits from
Taylor Zeutenhorst, who scored once and drove in a run.
Ryan Whitt went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while
Mike Rachun and T. Ellis each hit a home run. The Wind scored twice in the second, once in the sixth and twice in the ninth but could not overcome Trinidads early and middle-inning production.
Brandon Erickson earned the win for Trinidad after allowing five hits and three runs, with three earned, in seven innings. He walked two and struck out six.
Dalton Bernardi took the loss for Garden City, allowing eight hits and nine runs in five innings, including five earned, while striking out two and walking five.
