June 11 2018 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 7-6 after building an early lead and holding on late. Garden City collected 12 hits without committing an error, while Santa Fe finished with seven hits and four errors.
Garden City scored twice in the first inning, added a run in the fifth and scored three more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. The Wind added the eventual winning run in the seventh. Santa Fe scored twice in the fourth, three times in the sixth and once in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.
Ryan Whitt went 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a home run for Garden City.
Nick King added a home run and two RBI, while
Eddy Milian also homered and finished with two hits and one RBI. David Williams drove in two runs. Santa Fes
Ethan Estes led all hitters with three hits, three RBI and two home runs, while
Daniel Aldrich hit a solo home run in a pinch-hitting appearance.
Brian Rosensteel earned the win for Garden City with 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
Randy Hair added a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, and
Phil Ramos recorded the save despite allowing one run in the ninth. Santa Fe starter
Yale Hughes took the loss after allowing 12 hits and seven runs, six earned, in eight innings while striking out eight.
