June 17 2018 The Santa Fe Fuego defeated the Garden City Wind 14-13 in a high-scoring game at Fort Marcy Park. Both teams collected 16 hits, but Santa Fe overcame four Garden City errors and scored twice in the ninth inning to secure the victory. The Fuego led 8-5 after two innings before Garden City moved ahead 10-9 in the fourth and held a 13-12 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
Daniel Aldrich powered Santa Fe’s offense with five hits in six at-bats, including three home runs, four runs and nine RBI.
Ethan Estes added two hits, a home run and an RBI, while Donny Ortiz Jr. scored three runs. Santa Fe also received two hits and two runs from both
Ambrose Romero and Zach Hoffman.
Garden City’s offense was led by D. Williams, who hit two home runs and drove in four runs while collecting three hits.
Cole Fenner went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, and
Ryan Whitt added two hits, a double and an RBI.
Ryan Faircloth and
Jonathan Tasis also homered for the Wind.
Trent Maloney earned the win for Santa Fe after allowing one run on one hit in three innings with five strikeouts.
Yale Hughes started for the Fuego and surrendered 12 runs with nine earned on 15 hits in six innings. Garden City starter
Michael Biasello allowed nine runs with seven earned in five innings, while
Phil Ramos took the loss after giving up two runs in one-third of an inning.
