June 5 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Roswell Invaders 10-9 in a high-scoring game at Joe Bauman Park. Garden City collected 13 hits and built its lead with three runs in the second inning and three more in the third. The Wind added single runs in the fifth and sixth before scoring twice in the eighth to take a 10-3 advantage after six and a half innings.
Hunter Villanueva hit Garden City’s only home run and finished 1-for-1 with three RBI and two walks. Peter Pena went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Cutter McDowell and Russell Schwertfeger each had two hits. Schwertfeger scored three runs and McDowell scored once. Brandon Kussmaul and Jordan Pontious also drove in runs for the Wind.
Roswell rallied with two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, three in the eighth and three in the ninth, but the comeback fell one run short. Jared Hagan went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and two RBI. Matt Paciello had three hits and two RBI while A. Stubblefield added two hits and two RBI.
Rich Edwards earned the win for Garden City after allowing four hits and three runs two earned in six innings with two strikeouts. Travis Edgar recorded the save with a scoreless ninth that included three strikeouts. Kyle Herrick took the loss for Roswell after surrendering 10 hits and seven runs five earned in five innings while striking out six and walking four.
