June 24 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 20-12 in a high-scoring game at Clint Lightner. Garden City collected 16 hits and built its lead with five runs in the first inning, six in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Wind added a run in the eighth to complete the scoring, while Santa Fe finished with 14 hits and five errors.
Shane Brown led Garden City with four hits, three runs and six RBI, while Nick Snyder added four hits, two runs and six RBI, including a home run. Cutter McDowell scored four times and reached base six times with two hits and two walks. Carson Lee scored four runs and drew three walks, and Brandon Kussmaul contributed three RBI. For Santa Fe, Jose Camacho went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI and a home run. Robert Garza drove in three runs, and Jackson Webb hit a home run and finished with two RBI.
Edwin Lopez earned the win for Garden City after allowing 12 hits and 10 runs, eight earned, in six innings while striking out six and walking two. Kyle Porter, Chris Oakley and Travis Edgar combined to hold Santa Fe scoreless over the final three innings, with Edgar striking out three in the ninth. Jack Herzing took the loss for Santa Fe after surrendering 17 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings, with nine walks and three strikeouts.
