Alpine Cowboys Outlast Garden City Wind 5-4 in 13 Innings

June 27 2019 The Alpine Cowboys defeated the Garden City Wind 5-4 in 13 innings, overcoming a late extra-inning challenge after both teams were tied 3-3 through nine innings. Alpine collected 12 hits and scored twice in the second inning, once in the ninth and twice in the 13th. Garden City scored once in the second, fourth, ninth and 13th innings and finished with six hits.

Will Little led Alpine’s offense with three hits, a double, one run and one RBI while drawing three walks. Michael Traylor also recorded three hits, and Sam Little went 2-for-6 with a triple, one run and one RBI. Ellington Hopkins added two hits, one RBI and three stolen bases, while pinch-hitter Cullen Franz delivered a hit and an RBI.

Garden City’s Brandon Kussmaul had two hits, and Carson Lee and Nick Snyder each doubled. Peter Pena drove in a run for the Wind, who also received an RBI from Kyle Porter. Alpine’s Ryan Hill pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out five. Zack Kammerman worked six innings for Garden City, giving up six hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.

Michael Koltak earned the win with a hitless inning, and Terrell Walker recorded the save despite allowing one run in the 13th. Kyle Porter took the loss after surrendering two runs in one inning. Alpine’s two-run 13th inning proved decisive, as Garden City answered with one run but could not complete the comeback.
