July 1 2019 The Garden City Wind held off the Santa Fe Fuego 6-5 after Santa Fe scored four times in the ninth inning. Garden City finished with 13 hits and no errors while Santa Fe collected 10 hits and committed one error.
Garden City built an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the third fourth sixth and seventh to take a 6-1 advantage. Alvin Swoope went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Joel Garza drove in two runs and went 2-for-5. Jordan Pontious and Brandon Kussmaul each added two hits and an RBI. Hunter Villanueva hit a solo home run and scored twice.
Santa Fe rallied in the ninth but came up short. Jose Camacho went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while Sherman Graves went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Brett Elmer reached base four times with a hit three walks and an RBI.
Jonathan Fleckenstein was credited with the win after allowing one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings. Rich Edwards opened for Garden City with four scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out two. Santa Fe starter Alex Merithew took the loss after surrendering six runs on 13 hits in seven innings.
