Garden City Wind Roll Past Santa Fe Fuego 14-4

July 3 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 14-4 after collecting 16 hits and scoring in seven innings. Garden City took control early with three runs in the first inning and three more in the second to build a 6-2 lead. The Wind added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth. Alvin Swoope reached base five times with two hits, three walks and three runs scored. Jordan Pontious went 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run, while Peter Pena also had three hits and drove in two. Shane Brown contributed two hits and four RBI, and Joel Garza had two hits, two runs and one RBI. Garden City also received doubles from Reid Bonner and Joel Garza. Zack Kammerman earned the win for Garden City after allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out four. Jonathan Fleckenstein, Travis Edgar and Russell Schwertfeger combined to hold Santa Fe scoreless over the final three innings, with Fleckenstein and Schwertfeger each recording a strikeout. Santa Fe finished with 11 hits, led by Rick Phillips 3-for-4 performance and two-hit games from Robert Garza, Jose Camacho and Sherman Graves. Garza scored twice, drove in one and hit a solo home run, while Camacho and Phillips each doubled. Jose Garcia took the loss after surrendering nine runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
