July 4 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 4-3 in a tightly contested game. Garden City scored once in the third inning, added another run in the fifth and pushed across two runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Santa Fe answered with one run in the seventh and another in the eighth but could not complete the comeback. Both teams committed two errors.
Jose Camacho led Santa Fe with three hits, including a home run, and one RBI.
Jackson Webb,
Rick Phillips and
Brett Elmer each collected two hits, while
Nick Herzog drove in the Fuego’s other run. Santa Fe finished with 12 hits but left seven runners on base.
Brennan Fischer earned the win for Garden City after allowing two runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He walked four and struck out four.
Pierce Smith and
Austin Willis-Greene combined to hold Santa Fe scoreless over the final two innings, with Willis-Greene recording the save by working 1.2 hitless innings.
Ross Mintzer took the loss for Santa Fe despite allowing only two hits in six innings. He was charged with four runs, two earned, while walking six and striking out one.
Logan Linder followed with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Brandon Kussmaul and
Shane Brown each drove in a run for Garden City, while
Reid Bonner scored twice.
