July 6 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the White Sands Pupfish 8-4, overcoming an early deficit with runs in the fifth seventh and eighth innings. Garden City finished with 10 hits and one error while White Sands collected nine hits and committed three errors.
White Sands took a 4-2 lead with a four-run third inning after Garden City scored twice in the first. The Wind answered with two runs in the fifth to tie the game, then added a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take control.
Shane Brown led Garden City with three hits, two walks, one run and one RBI. Carson Lee went 2-for-4 with a home run, one run and one RBI, while Jordan Pontious added two doubles and three RBIs. Brandon Kussmaul also had two hits, including two doubles. For White Sands, Tevin Brown and Austin Requena each had two hits; Requena hit a home run and drove in two runs.
Rich Edwards earned the win for Garden City after allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, in seven innings. He walked one and struck out one. Jonathan Fleckenstein and Austin Willis-Greene each worked a scoreless inning in relief. White Sands starter Collin Shaw took the loss despite recording nine strikeouts, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in four innings while walking five.
